Betrayal and Brutality: How Two Young Men Killed Their 17-Year-Old Friend for Ransom in Lagos

Psalm 41:9 “ Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. ” On April 22, 2026, tragedy struck in Lagos when 17-year-old Thompson Adams Omokafe, who had just written his UTME examination, was betrayed and killed by people he trusted. What Happened in the Ibeju-Lekki Kidnapping Two young men, Elijah Emmanuel (23) and Tony Ogenata (21), lured Thompson, a former schoolmate of one of them, to their apartment in the Ibeju-Lekki area. They held him captive and demanded a huge ransom of ₦150 million from his parents. While still negotiating with the family, the suspects allegedly strangled Thompson to death. His body was later dumped in a canal around Awoyaya. Even after the murder, the suspects continued contacting the family, reduced the ransom demand, and eventually collected ₦200,000 through a POS machine in Itamaga, Ikorodu.
