Perilous Time: This Lecturer Was Sentenced To Death For Killing Her Husband

Matthew 10:21 KJV
"And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death."

It is quite disheartening for the way things are going in this our world. We have come to the point where brothers, husbands, wives, parents and even children have been driven by greed, hatred and selfishness to kill one another.

A university lecturer in Kenya by the name, Sheila Wanjiku Kibinge, has been sentenced to death for murdering her husband over what is said to be family property.

Reports from Kenya's Daily Nation says the suspects is a university lecturer in the US, who as well is a PhD student. She was handed the sentence on Tuesday by High Court Judge, Jessie Lessit.

“The prosecution, led by State Prosecutor Evelyn Onunga, has proved beyond reasonable doubt that you purposed to kill your husband although you allege you were both kidnapped the night your husband was executed,” Justice Lessit said.

Her defence claimed that her husband was killed by kidnappers but the judge dismissed it.

He declared to the court that the accused murdered her husband by shooting him in the head, neck and chest in Gitaru village, Kikuyu, Kiambu Country.

He declared, “The number of shots fired at the deceased, Leonard Kibinge Kiruri on the night of April 14, 2014, establishes pre-meditated malice aforethought.”

Even though the woman who happens to also be a mother of two pleaded for leniency, the judge said, “There is only one verdict provided for in the law and that is “to suffer death in the manner prescribed by the law.”

However the judge said that, there was no substantial evidence linking her to the murder of her husband as the weapon used in the crime was never recovered, but she said circumstantial evidence and inconsistencies in her narrative of events that lead to the murder were her undoings.

Going by her testimony she claimed she walked away when she heard a blast from the suspected kidnappers before their car crashed into the fence.

She also claimed she never checked on her husband, who was driving the car before the car crashed, a fact that the judge faulted.

The judge also found it interesting that after the incident, the accused never reported to the police station closer the scene, Kikuyu Police Station but rather she went to report the matter at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Witnesses said that the accused had already changed her attire by the time she reported the matter to the police.
