Google replaces 'Palestinian Territories' with 'Palestine'

The change went into effect om May 1, Google spokesman Nathan Tyler said.

Google have updated the tagline of their Palestinian webpage from Palestinian Territories to Palestine.

The modification on May 1 signalled a significant triumph for the Palestinian Authority, which has been campaigning for recognition as an independent state rather than Israeli occupied territories for several years.

"This is a virtual victory for Palestine - a step in the right direction that has to be followed by others, including Google Maps and Google Earth," said Sabri Saidam, IT consultant to Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas.
